1888

"Grandpa AJ" migrated from Sweden to the plains of Colorado, where as a potato farmer, began a long line of agriculture family history. Over the next 135 years, generations have continued to carry on a range of farming and agriculture operations in the area. Currently, Better Forage has 5th and 6th generational descendants involved in the company.

2007

Toby Anderson (5th generation descendant) covered his first silage pile at a dairy south of Holyoke as a side gig to supplement his youth ministry occupation. Using the customer’s loader and a gate panel chained to the bucket, he and a few workers loaded and unloaded all of the tires by hand. In 2012, with the down payment assistance from his dad, he was able to purchase equipment that would also be shared on the family farm. The company name Mountain West Tarp & Cover was formed. By word of mouth, the jobs, customer base, and workers continued to increase over the years. Today, there are at least 7 machines and crews that cover silage in its peak season.

2011

Jared Anderson (5th generation descendant) started installing and renting Hay Tarps (also as a side gig) for a customer in Crook, Colorado. He hauled the tarps and ladder in the back of his suburban with 300,000 miles and no A/C. Coincidingly he also sold Tytan baling twine. With a lot of hard work, sweat and good workers, he continued to grow the tarping and twine business. As of today there are up to 5 hay tarping crews that cover during peak season.

2019

Toby and Jared Anderson, combined the silage covering, hay covering and twine business under the name Mountain West Tarp & Cover. By doing so, they were able to utilize the same trucks, equipment, and labor to more efficiently serve their customers, many of whom already overlapped with silage and hay covering services. Over the next few years, the business gradually expanded its product offerings and aligned itself with quality manufactures.

2020

Mountain West Tarp & Cover was joined by Kyle Wilson (6th generation descendent) who previously started a company called Better Forage focused on providing products and consulting in the forage industry. In 2022, with continued focus to provide the best forage preservation and operational products and with the knowledge to use these products, Mountain West Tarp & Cover changed its name to Better Forage.
